August 3, 2020

Because of the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 situation this fall, we have canceled our Prime Time Fall Retreat and Family Fall Festival.

We still have campsites open for individual and family camping, and would encourage you to come join us during the cooler fall months for family fun!

We've also canceled our Fall Rummage Sale. The income lost from this annual fundraising event will be signifcant. If you'd like to give to the ministry of SBC to help offset the loss, you can do so here.

CURRENTLY . . .

Our campground is open and we will be updating the front page of our website with future announcements.

JUNE 3

The campground will be open beginning June 5! For the safety of our guests, we will be cleaning more frequently, and will have some limitations for this first weekend.

It's very important that you read the following before coming to camp:

1. You MUST have a reservation to camp. Reservations can be made online or by calling 517-688-3783 during business hours.

2. There will not be any buildings or indoor meeting areas open. The Field House and Cedar Center will be closed, including the Field House restrooms.

3. The West Bathhouse is the ONLY bathhouse open this weekend.

4. The Trading Post, pop machines and Lakeside Grill will both be closed for this weekend.

5. Boats and recreation equipment will not be available for rent.

6. The waterfront will be open for swimming at your own risk. There will not be any lifeguards on duty.

MAY 25, 2020

Many of you have asked if we’ll have camp this summer, and we’ve remained hopeful and optimistic. Over the past few months, we have spent time consulting camp industry experts, health professionals and local authorities to be sure we could keep campers healthy and make the wisest decision regarding the Covid pandemic. This work has been tireless, stressful, and heartbreaking.

This weekend, our director and board of directors made the incredibly difficult decision to postpone all of our 2020 summer youth camps AND Family Camp until 2021.

We looked at every possible way to provide the camp program you have come to know, love, and expect every summer. We want a week at SBC to be the best week of your summer, and we believe the restrictions we would need to have in place for these programs would cause it to fall short.

If you’re registered, we’re offering full refunds to everyone, or the opportunity to transfer your fees to 2021. The loss of the summer season will have a substantial and significant impact on our ministry, and we’re asking you to consider donating all or a portion of your fees to SBC, if you are able to do so financially.

Click here to cancel a youth camp registration.

If you have a Family Camp reservation, you will still have the option to camp during those dates (if restrictions are lifted enough for us to open the campground) without any of the usual programming.

Click here to let us know what to do with your Family Camp reservation.

Although we are heartbroken, we are putting our trust in God during this time, asking Him to redeem this situation for good.

We are still hoping to be open in other ways this summer, including opening the campground. We will keep you posted in upcoming days!

MaY 24, 2020

Here's an update on use of the SBC grounds:

  • To comply with Safer at home orders, Somerset Beach is currently closed for overnight camping, use of buildings and group areas. This closure will be in effect until these orders are no longer in effect or are relaxed to allow us to open. Even then, we will open when we feel we can do so with your safety in mind.

  • We have turned off our online campground reservation system until we know we can have you here as our guests.

  • If you have a seasonal site at Somerset Beach, you're welcome out here at any time. You can relax at your site, or work to get it ready for when restrictions are lifted enough for overnight stays. The water is on throughout the campground, but bath houses are still closed

  • Swimming is permitted for all day guests, at your own risk. The waterfront will not be supervised and lifeguards will not be on duty.

  • Cedar Center bathrooms are open.

  • We welcome you to use the grounds for hiking, and other forms of recreation. Fishing from shore is permitted with exception of the sandy shore area which includes our swimming area and boat area. You must leave the grounds by dark.

  • You are welcome to bring your own boat, providing you are not using a gasoline powered motor. Camp boats are currently unavailable for use.

  • As a reminder smoking is prohibited in areas of public use, near restrooms, and in the vicinity of other structures. Also, alcoholic beverages, the use of vaping devices and marijuana products are also prohibited.

  • During our closure the best way to contact staff is by email, info@somersetbeach.org, or you may call the camp line and leave a message when prompted at 517-688-3783.

  • There is currently no charge for day guests, but donations can be left in the after hours dropbox at the Welcome Center, if you wish.

We look forward to welcoming you back to SBC just as soon as it is safe to do so and we are permitted to.

May 9, 2020

As most of you already know, the Stay Home, Stay Safe order has been extended until May 28. Sadly, this means we will not be able to have overnight guests until then, including Memorial Day weekend.

If you have a reservation between now and May 28, please click here to let us know how to best proceed with your cancellation:

Thank you for your patience, as we work to cancel or transfer a large number of reservations with a limited number of staff!

May 7, 202o

Our lifeguarding class, originally scheduled to begin May 28, has been cancelled.

April 30, 2020

We’ve had a lot of inquiries about when we will be reopening for guests, and the short answer is, “As soon as it’s safe to do so.”

Many of you may have read that state parks are planning to open in June, but Somerset Beach is a privately owned campground. The executive order (set to expire on May 15th) prevents us from renting campsites and cabins before then, but we plan to re-open for camping as soon as it is safe to do so. This may be as early as May 16, but we understand that there may be further delays or restrictions necessary for public safety.

We will continue to post updates here, on our Facebook page and through email. Please know that if you make a reservation for a time when camping is still prohibited, we will refund all fees paid.

APRIL 13, 2020

Our Prime Time Work Retreat originally scheduled for May has been cancelled. We hope to be able to reschedule it for June.

April 6, 2020

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, we have made changes to our summer schedule.

Senior Teen Camp has been moved to June 28 – July 2. All registrations for Senior Teen Camp have been moved to that week. We understand that this may conflict with your summer plans, and if you need to cancel, please reach out and we can help you with that.

This means that our Explorer Camp 1 and Young Teen Camp 1 will be canceled. We will move all Explorer or Young Teen registrations for that week to July 19 - 23, 2020. If you would rather move to July 26 - 30, 2020 instead, or if you need to cancel, please email or call us at 517-688-3783.

Also, we've extended the early bird discount deadline to June 1.

We are hoping these will be the only changes necessary to our summer schedule, but we know that this situation is ongoing and may need to be re-evaluated as time passes. Thank you for your patience!

March 23, 2020

In light of the recent "stay at home" order, camp staff will be working remotely for the time period mandated by our governor. We will still be available via phone (517-688-3783) and email (info@somersetbeach.org).

In addition, our lodges and camping areas are now closed to overnight guests, including lease lots. Our trails, roads and outdoor areas are still available for individual exercise (excluding the playground equipment).

We continue to be in prayer for all of our camp family during these difficult days.

March 17, 2020

Our campers and guests have been on our minds over the last few days as we all try to navigate the changes caused by COVID-19.

There's so much uncertainty about what the next few weeks and months will look like, but we are committed to loving all of you the best that we can, even if right now it can only be by praying for you, that you will remain healthy and hopeful.

Please know that you can continue to register for camp and make reservations without worry or hesitation. If circumstances prevent us from holding camps or allowing camping, we will certainly refund payments.

In this time of social distancing, feel free to come and walk our grounds or hike our trails. We have plenty of space to roam, keeping a safe distance from others while drawing closer to our Creator.
