Volunteering at a Christian Campground: 4 Reasons Why Volunteers Are Vital

Have you ever considered volunteering at a Christian campground? Spending your time volunteering not only makes a difference in the lives of campers, but it also makes an impact on volunteers for years to come! When you generously give of your time volunteering at Somerset Beach Campground, you make an impact not just today, but into eternity.

Why Volunteers Are Vital to Christian Camping Ministries

Christian campgrounds offer a place for families, youth, and groups to go to rest, enjoy outdoor activities, be encouraged spiritually, and build relationships with one another. Although it takes a lot of work to keep a campground running, the rewards are well worth it. There's nothing like seeing campers enjoy nature, participate in enriching activities together, and be strengthened in their Christian walk.

Here are 4 reasons why volunteers are vital to Christian camping ministries.

  1. They help keep costs low. Not everyone can afford the cost of going to camp. At Somerset Beach Campground, we do our best to keep costs low so that we can host as many campers as possible. Volunteers are a vital component to keeping the campground accessible to more people.
  2. Volunteers show the love of Christ. When youth come to camp, there are many ways that they learn more about Jesus in a fun and safe environment. Seeing volunteers joyfully serving at camp is one very tangible way that our youth see the servant nature of Christ played out in real life.
  3. We're all part of the body. 1 Corinthians 12:12 says, "For just as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body—though many—are one body, so too is Christ." Serving at camp is one way that the body of Christ comes together to build up other members.
  4. Many hands make light work. Maintaining a campground is a lot of work. Between keeping up with the property, preparing hundreds of meals, administrative tasks, and so much more, it's far too much for a few staff members to manage. But many hands make light work, and there's nothing like working beside each other!

Benefits of Volunteering at a Christian Campground

Volunteering at a Christian campground is a rewarding way to make a spiritual impact on the lives of campers, both young and old.

But campers aren't the only ones who reap the benefits. Over and over, volunteers say that they're the ones who are blessed by the hours spent contributing to the mission of the campground.

Here are 3 benefits volunteers experience when giving their time and energy to camping ministries:

  1. Enjoying Christian community. Whether you volunteer for a day or a week, serving alongside other Christians is one of the richest ways to experience community. Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."
  2. Helping kids and adults grow in their relationship with Christ. While enjoying nature, participating in sports, and fellowshipping with friends are all worthwhile pursuits, the true goal of a Christian campground is that people know Christ more. When you volunteer, you get to participate in this valuable goal!
  3. Building lifelong friendships. Many times, the encouragement gained by volunteering together lasts much longer than a day. Working together toward a common goal is often the start of lifelong friendships. And there's no better place than camp to build those treasured relationships!
